Clydesdale Tour
Terms & Conditions
These terms and conditions apply to all bookings made for the Tinwald Farm Clydesdale Tour. By completing a booking you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these terms, including the health and safety requirements set out in clause 1. These terms are governed by New Zealand law.
1. Health, Safety & Participation Requirements
By completing a booking, guests acknowledge that the Clydesdale Tour takes place on a working farm involving large animals and farm machinery, and that inherent risks exist that cannot be entirely eliminated. The following requirements apply to all participants.
General farm safety
• Guests must be aged 10 or over. Children under 10 are not permitted on the tour. Infants and toddlers of any age are not permitted.
• Pushchairs, prams and strollers cannot be accommodated on the farm terrain and must not be brought onto the property.
• Sturdy, closed-toe footwear must be worn at all times. Guests in inappropriate footwear may be asked not to participate.
• Guests must remain with the tour guide at all times and must not wander beyond the designated tour areas.
• All instructions given by Tinwald Farm staff must be followed promptly. Failure to do so may put yourself and others at risk.
Clydesdale horses
• Clydesdales are large, powerful animals. Even well-trained horses can behave unpredictably.
• Approach horses calmly and quietly at all times. Sudden movements or loud noises may startle them.
• Be aware that horses’ heads can swing quickly and with significant force, particularly if startled.
• Do not approach, touch or feed any horse without the express instruction of the tour guide.
• Stand clear of horses’ hindquarters at all times.
• During harness and sled demonstrations, guests must remain in the designated viewing area indicated by the guide.
Tractor transport
• Transport between the farm gate and the stables is provided by heritage tractor and trailer.
• Remain seated during transport and hold on securely at all times.
• Do not board or disembark the trailer while it is moving.
• Follow all boarding and disembarking instructions given by your guide.
Health & medical conditions
• Guests with a medical condition, mobility limitation, or allergy (including allergies to animals, hay, or dust) that may affect their participation are asked to contact Tinwald Farm before booking.
• Guests with severe animal allergies should seek independent medical advice before attending.
• Tinwald Farm reserves the right to exclude any guest from participating where, in the reasonable opinion of the tour guide, their participation poses a risk to themselves, other guests, or the animals. No refund will be issued in these circumstances.
2. Liability
Guests participate in the Tinwald Farm Clydesdale Tour at their own risk. Tinwald Farm takes all reasonable steps to ensure the safety of guests, but cannot eliminate all risks associated with a working farm environment involving large animals and farm machinery.
To the fullest extent permitted by New Zealand law, Tinwald Farm, its owners, employees and agents shall not be liable for any loss, injury, damage or death sustained by a guest arising from participation in the tour, except where such loss is caused by the gross negligence or wilful misconduct of Tinwald Farm.
Nothing in these terms excludes any rights guests may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or any other applicable New Zealand legislation that cannot be excluded by contract.
3. Acceptance of Terms
Completion of a booking and payment in full constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions on behalf of all guests included in the booking. The person making the booking is responsible for ensuring that all members of their group are aware of and agree to these terms, including the health and safety requirements in clause 1, before the tour date.
4. Booking & Payment
Bookings are made online through our ticketing system. A booking is confirmed upon receipt of full payment at the time of booking.
Bookings are subject to availability. Places are limited to a maximum of 10 guests per tour. Pre-booking is essential — walk-in guests cannot be accommodated.
5. Cancellations by the Guest
We know that plans don’t always work out. If you do need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible by email. If you cancel more than 7 days before the tour is scheduled, we will give you a full refund.
We are a small operation and each tour requires special arrangements to run. For that reason, if you need to cancel within 7 days of the tour date, we are not able to offer a refund. We appreciate your understanding.
Cancellations are effective from the date and time the written request is received by Tinwald Farm.
6. Changes to Bookings
Requests to change a booking to an alternative date may be considered subject to availability, provided the request is made more than 7 days before the scheduled tour. If an alternative date cannot be accommodated, the cancellation policy in clause 5 applies.
7. Cancellations by Tinwald Farm
In the event that Tinwald Farm cancels a tour due to weather, safety concerns, or other unforeseen circumstances, all affected guests will be offered either a full refund or a transfer to an alternative available date.
Tinwald Farm will provide as much notice as possible and will contact guests using the details provided at the time of booking.
